Karzai Lauds Iran’s Peacemaking Role in Afghanistan


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Former Afghan president Hamid Karzai hailed Iran for its contribution to peace in his country, calling for efforts to avert a new war in Afghanistan.

Iran’s Ambassador to Afghanistan Bahador Aminian held a meeting with Karzai in Kabul on Tuesday.

Expressing gratitude to Iran for humanitarian aids for the Afghan people, Karzai underlined that Afghanistan should not be engulfed by another war.

Praising Iran’s peacemaking role in Afghanistan, the former president called on the Islamic Republic to proceed with efforts to ensure sustainable peace in his country.

Karzai finally stressed the need for the Afghan groups to address the problems of Afghanistan through dialogue and understanding.

Iranian officials have consistently called for the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan with the participation of all ethnic groups.
