Iran, Syria Sign Academic MoU


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian university affiliated with the Ministry of Defense signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of Damascus on cooperation in various fields, from joint research to the exchange of graduate students.

After a meeting in the capital of Syria on Thursday, the presidents of Iran’s Malek Ashtar University of Technology and the University of Damascus signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU).

The agreement entails collaboration between the two universities in the field of research, postgraduate studies, industries, technical sciences, mechanics, robotics and computer science.

The MoU was signed by Mohammed Yasar Abdeen, president of Damascus University, and Brigadier General Qassem Taqizadeh, president of Malek Ashtar University of Technology, which is associated with the Iranian Defense Ministry.

The gathering was also attended by Syria’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Bassam Ibrahim, Syrian Ambassador to Tehran Shafik Diop, and other ranking officials, SANA reported.

The Syrian minister stressed the importance of benefiting from the scientific and research capabilities of Malek Ashtar University and linking those experiences to industrial projects.

For his part, Taqizadeh expressed the Iranian university’s readiness to cooperate with Syrian universities in the field of research and graduate studies.

In March 2019, The Islamic Azad University of Iran and the University of Damascus signed an agreement to launch academic cooperation.
