Hundreds March Berlin in Solidarity with Migrants Stranded at Belarus-Poland Border (+Video)
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Hundreds marched through Unter den Linden in Berlin, Germany, on Sunday in solidarity with thousands of migrants stranded at the Belarusian-Polish border.
Members of different activist groups were present, several marching behind a large banner that read, 'Open the borders,' and 'Safe Escape Routes Now,' while chanting, 'No human is illegal'
Protesters called for improvement of the conditions migrants face at the border, demanding that the government respond to the situation. At the moment, thousands of migrants are stuck in freezing temperatures, with some deaths reported.
The march kicked off at the iconic Brandenburg Gate and moved on towards the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters.
Tensions between the EU and Belarus have escalated in recent months. The EU accuses Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko of deliberately sending migrants to the border in response to sanctions imposed by the EU, which he denies.
