FM: Iran Attending Vienna Talks Seriously to Achieve A Good Deal


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said the country has taken part in a new round of the JCPOA talks in Vienna with serious resolve in order to secure a “good and effective” agreement.

The top Iranian diplomat on Monday held a meeting with Mikhail Bogdanov, Russia’s deputy foreign minister and special representative of the Russian president for the Middle East and Africa who has visited Tehran.

In the meeting, Amirabdollahian referred to the recent ECO Summit in Ashgabat, expressed satisfaction with the process of cooperation in the region, and hailed the positive meetings between the Iranian president and the leaders of regional countries.

He also thanked Russia for playing an active role in the Vienna talks, stressing that Iran has attended the negotiations with serious will to reach a good and effective agreement.

Amirabdollahian described Tehran’s cooperation with Russia on the regional issues as effective and fruitful, expressing Tehran’s readiness to host a summit of the Astana peace process and also the meeting of foreign ministers regarding Syria.

The top Iranian diplomat also welcomed Russia’s offer for cooperation between the two countries in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

For his part, Mikhail Bogdanov said the friendly ties between Iran and Russia are based on long-standing relations and have continued steadily and solidly.

He said the Russian officials are satisfied with the level of relations between the two countries, adding, "We are interested in receiving the views of the officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding regional developments."

The Russian deputy foreign minister then highlighted the importance of the Caucasus issues for both countries and the region, saying there are many areas in which Russia and Iran can cooperate.

He said the withdrawal of the US forces from Afghanistan is a cause of suspicion and concern for the regional countries.

Bogdanov finally highlighted the importance of relations with Syria and condemned the sanctions on the Arab country.
