Iran’s Aghaei Not Selected for BWF Athletes' Commission

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Soraya Aghaei of Iran was not elected in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Athletes' Commission.

Nine candidates stood, with six elected.

American Iris Wang topped the poll with 136 votes, followed by Indonesia's Olympic women's doubles champion Greysia Polii with 126.

Indian PV Sindhu received 120 votes from the 162 athletes who took part in the online election.

South Korea's Kim So-yeong, a women's doubles bronze medalist at Tokyo 2020 was also chosen, and Netherlands' Robin Tabeling tallied 113 to secure his place on the body.

Tokyo 2020 mixed doubles silver medalist Zheng Siwei of China completes the six-person Athletes' Commission with 111 votes.

Each member's term runs until 2025.

Scotland's Adam Hall, Hadia Hosny of Egypt and Iranian Soraya Aghaei missed out having secured 93, 78 and 75 votes, respectively.

A new chair, to replace Germany's Marc Zwiebler will be elected when the new Athletes' Commission meets for the first time, as well as a deputy chair.

The chair will also sit on the BWF Council until 2025, subject to a vetting process.
