Iran Marks Lowest Daily COVID Deaths in 667 Days


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The number of patients who have died of the coronavirus infection in Iran over the past 24 hours stood at 22, the lowest death toll since March 7, 2020.

The Iranian Health Ministry put the total deaths from COVID-19 in the country at 131,702 on Monday, saying the disease has taken the lives of only 22 patients over the past 24 hours, the lowest toll in 667 days.

Over the past 24 hours, 1,677 new cases of COVID-19 infection were reported, with 334 of them hospitalized, the ministry added.

More than 6,042,500 individuals have recovered or been discharged from hospitals out of a total of 6,198,500 ones who have contracted the disease.

Some 2,624 victims of COVID-19 are in severe condition and are being treated in intensive care facilities, it said.

The ministry also said that over 59.9 million Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, over 52.14 million have received the second dosage, and more than 8.37 million have gotten the booster shots.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 290 million and the death toll has exceeded 5.46 million.
