Over 12.5 Million Iranians Get COVID Booster Shots


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – More than 12,521,000 people in Iran have received a third dose of the coronavirus vaccine, known as the booster shot.

New figures released by the Health Ministry indicate that nearly 126 million doses of coronavirus vaccines have been administered in the country as of Sunday, with over 60.32 million people having received the first dose, more than 53.13 million fully vaccinated, and 12,521,856 adults having gotten the third dose.

While more than 43.41 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far, the total number of people tested positive has exceeded 6,221,000 following the detection of 2,292 new cases since Saturday.

Of the new cases detected in the past 24 hours, 224 patients have been admitted to the hospital.

At least 6,064,600 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran.

The ministry also put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 132,075, saying the disease has taken the lives of 31 patients over the past 24 hours.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 1,345 coronavirus patients are in the intensive care units.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 327 million and the death toll has exceeded 5.55 million.
