Iran Permits Transfer of Diesel to Afghanistan

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Permission has been granted for the cargoes of diesel to be shipped from the Iranian soil to neighboring Afghanistan, Iran's special representative for Afghanistan Hassan Kazemi Qomi said.

The special Iranian envoy said Tehran has given the permission to help fulfill the needs of Afghan people in the wintertime.

According to Kazemi Qomi, the three-month permission for the shipment of diesel has been granted at the request of the Afghan officials.

Under the authorization, cargoes of diesel will be transferred to Afghanistan from Iran until April 20.

The crisis that Afghanistan is facing this winter is of a magnitude not seen for at least 20 years, when the Taliban was removed and replaced by governments in Kabul who relied heavily on foreign support.

The United Nations estimates nearly 23 million Afghans -about 55 percent of the population- are facing extreme levels of hunger, with nearly nine million at risk of famine as winter takes hold.
