Iran, Azerbaijan Discuss Strengthening Military Ties
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The defense ministers of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan weighed plans to boost military cooperation between the two neighbors.
Minister of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan Zakir Hasanov, who has traveled to Tehran with a military delegation, held a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani in Tehran on Wednesday.
Stressing the need to promote the military and defense cooperation between the two countries, the Iranian minister said the two neighbors ought to enhance their relations in all fields considering their historical and cultural commonalities.
The expansion of mutual defense and security cooperation between Tehran and Baku is of great significance, General Ashtiani said, adding, “Given their place and special geopolitical features, the two countries have great capacities and opportunities for the enhancement of relations in all fields.”
For his part, the visiting Azeri general expressed gratitude to the Iranian government and authorities for supporting the Republic of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.
Lauding Iran’s remarkable military capabilities and progress in the defense industry, Hasanov called for the expansion of relations with Iran.
He also invited the Iranian defense minister to pay a visit to Baku.
