Coronavirus Claims over 180 More Lives in Iran


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The death toll from the COVID-19 pandemic in Iran has surpassed 134,400 after 182 more patients succumbed to the disease in the past 24 hours, the Health Ministry said.

Figures released by the ministry on Thursday show that the coronavirus has taken the lives of 182 patients over the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll since the outbreak of the pandemic in February 2020 to 134,420.

According to the statistics, 17,545 new cases of COVID-19 infection have been reported across the country over the past 24 hours, with 2,342 of them hospitalized.

More than 6.4 million individuals have recovered or been discharged from hospitals out of a total of 6,894,000 who have contracted the disease, the ministry added.

Some 3,760 victims of COVID-19 are in severe condition and are being treated in intensive care facilities, it said.

The ministry also said that over 61.87 million Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, over 54.93 million have received the second dosage, and more than 21.86 million have gotten the booster shots.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 418 million and the death toll has exceeded 5.87 million.
