Iran Reports 19,317 New COVID-19 Cases


TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran’s Health Ministry on Friday reported 19,317 new COVID-19 cases, taking the country’s total infections to 6,913,427.

The pandemic also claimed 187 lives in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll from the virus to 134,607, said the ministry.

The Ministry added that 2,566 patients were hospitalized due to infection to Omicron infection.

A total of 6,427,388 patients out of a total of 6,913,427 infected people have recovered from the disease or been discharged from hospitals across the country, while 3,842 remained in intensive care units, it added.

By Friday, 61,949,008 Iranians have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, including 54,988,930who have taken two jabs, as well as 21,945,173 who have received the third shot.

Globally, the latest vaccination rate is 27,339,085 doses per day, which includes 5,644,486 people getting their first shot. At this pace, it will take another 6 months until 75% of the population has received at least one dose.

The whole world has been facing the unprecedented coronavirus health crisis almost a year now. 398,319,448 coronavirus cases have been reported and over 5,819,864 people have died of Covid-19 worldwide.
