Mahdavikia Appointed Head Coach of Iran’s U-23 Team


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Mehdi Mahdavikia was officially appointed head coach of Iran’s U-23 football team on Wednesday.

The former Team Melli winger penned a deal with the Iran football federation ahead of the 2022 AFC U-23 Asian Cup, which will be held in Uzbekistan from June 1 to 19.

Mahdavikia was named as head coach of Iran U-23 football team in September 2021 and Iran qualified for the final round under his leadership, however he had not penned a contract with the federation.

He will lead Iran in the 2022 AFC U-23 Asian Cup, where his team has been drawn with host Uzbekistan, Qatar and Turkmenistan in Group A.
