Coronavirus in Iran: Over 4,000 Patients in ICUs


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – More than 4,000 of the patients diagnosed with the coronavirus infection in Iran are in the intensive care units of hospitals.

The Iranian Health Ministry said on Sunday that 4,049 COVID-19 patients in the country are in severe condition and are being treated in intensive care facilities.

The death toll from the pandemic in Iran has risen to 136,631, as 241 more Iranians have succumbed to the deadly disease in the last 24 hours, it said.

Over the last 24 hours, 9,524 new cases of COVID-19 infection were reported, with 1,682 of them hospitalized, it added.

The Health Ministry also said more than 6,634,000 individuals have recovered or been discharged from hospitals out of a total of 7,040,400 sick people.

The ministry added that over 62.73 million Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, over 55.41 million have received the second dosage, and more than 22.99 million have gotten the booster shots.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 435 million and the death toll has exceeded 5.96 million.
