Iran, Iraq Sign Agreement to Combat Dust Storm

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran and Iraq signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to combat dust storms that have troubled both countries.

The agreement was signed in Tehran on Thursday by Ali Salajegheh, head of Iran's Department of Environment, and Jasesim Al-Falahi, Iraq's Environment Minister.

According to Salajegheh, Iranian scientists have developed a few types of ecofriendly mulch materials that have yielded positive results in both laboratory and field tests.

He stated that ecofriendly mulch materials were created to avoid using oil mulch to contain dust storms that would harm the environment.

Iran has been attempting to rally the region's countries to join forces in order to contain dust sources in the region, as many countries in West Asia have been plagued by dust storms.
