Iran Crowned Champion of U-20 World Wrestling


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian freestyle wrestling team won the U-20 World Championships on Wednesday.

Iran finished first with 159 points, 17 ahead of the US, and India finished third with 112 points.

The Iranian wrestlers won three gold medals, one silver, and four bronzes in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Asian champion Amir Hossein Firouzpour won the gold medal at 92kg, defeating Georgian wrestler Andro Margishvili 11-0 in the final match.

The second gold for Iran was won by Amir Reza Masoumi as he defeated Indian Mahendra Gaikwad 13-2 in the 125kg final.

In the 61kg final, Armin Habibzadeh was defeated against Japanese Yuto Nishiuchi 5-3.

On Tuesday, Sobhan Yari won a gold in the 79kg.

Ahmad Mohammadnejhad in 57kg, Hossein Mohammad Aghaei in 70kg, and Amirali Azarpira also bagged three bronze medals.
