Iran Reaffirms Opposition to Sanctions on Russia

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Expressing Iran’s opposition to the sanctions against Russia, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi assured his Russian counterpart that Tehran will never join the campaign of anti-Russian sanctions.

Raisi and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Uzbekistan’s Samarkand on Thursday.

In the meeting, Raisi underlined that Iran does not and will never recognize the sanctions against Russia and will strengthen and develop its relations with Moscow in the trade and economic sphere, Interfax reported.

On the talks on the revival of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and removal of the sanctions on Iran, Raisi said Tehran has never left the negotiating table, but it has been proved to the whole world that it is the US that is incapable of negotiating.

The US violates all obligations and, of course, everyone is convinced that the European Union is also in a passive situation, Raisi stated, saying the Europeans are unable to fulfill their promises.

For his part, Putin said the Western states are not the masters of their word because they give as they want or take when they want.

The Russian leader also said on Thursday that a delegation of 80 large companies will visit Iran next week, RIA reported.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, the Iranian president has traveled to Samarkand to attend the SCO summit.
