Iran, Senegal Battle to 1-1 Stalemate


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran came from a goal down to hold Senegal to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday in an international friendly in Mödling, Austria.

Star-studded Senegal took the lead in the 55th minute after Morteze Pouraliganji opened the own goal.

In the 64th minute, substitute Sardar Azmoun equalized the match, heading the ball home from the six yards.

Iran edged past Uruguay 1-0 on Friday in its training camp in Austria.

Team Melli, who will be making its seventh World Cup appearance in Qatar, has been drawn in Group B of the 2022 FIFA World Cup along with England, the US and Wales.

Aliou Cisse's side, who secured its first Africa Cup of Nations title in February when it beat Egypt in the final, is now unbeaten in 16 of 20 games across all competitions in 2022, claiming 13 wins and three draws since the turn of the year.
