Iran Censures Danish Police’s Belated Response to Attack on Embassy

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian foreign minister strongly criticized Denmark for its failure to protect the security of the Embassy and ambassador of Iran in Copenhagen, saying the Danish police have responded belatedly to the violation of Iran’s diplomatic site.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian held a telephone conversation with the country’s Ambassador to Denmark Afsaneh Nadipoor on Friday after an armed intruder trespassed on the Iranian Embassy in Copenhagen.

The envoy briefed the foreign minister on the circumstances surrounding the attack on her by an armed assailant, saying, “After trespassing on the premises of the Embassy, the assailant carrying cold weapon started to threaten, created intimidation and fear, and caused damages to the vehicles in the parking lot of the Embassy.”

She also expressed regret that despite the formal warnings given in advance, the Danish police have been deployed to the Iranian Embassy with a long delay.

For his part, Foreign Minister Amirabdollahian strongly criticized Denmark for failing to ensure the security of the Iranian envoy and Embassy in Copenhagen, adding, “It’s a pity that such an attack takes place on a lady and ambassador with diplomatic impunity in the heart of Europe, while the police did not respond to the scene in a timely manner.”
