Russia to Host Meeting on Afghanistan

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign minister of Russia said his country is going to hold the Moscow format meeting on Afghanistan next week.

The Moscow format meeting on Afghanistan will be held next week, with the Taliban and other Afghan political forces to be informed about the event, Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday.

"The next Moscow format meeting (on Afghanistan) will take place next week. Indian friends will be present at it, just like all other participants of previous events of this kind... We have no secrets from Afghan representatives. We will inform the Taliban and other political forces that are there (in Afghanistan) in detail," Lavrov said at a press conference with his Indian counterpart, Sputnik reported.

Russia has repeatedly called on the Taliban to form a government that includes all ethnic groups and political forces in Afghanistan.

In October 2021, Lavrov said the Kremlin recognizes the Taliban’s “efforts” to try and stabilize the situation in Afghanistan since taking power in mid-August 2021.

But he urged the group to now assemble an administration “reflecting the interests of not only all ethnic groups but all political forces” in Afghanistan in order to achieve a stable peace in the country.
