Iran’s Police Seize 3 Tons of Narcotics in Single Operation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Police forces have confiscated 3,000 kg of illicit drugs during an operation in the southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan.

Commander of the province’s Police Brigadier General Mohammad Qanbari said his forces have smashed two drug rings in the cities of Iranshahr and Khash.

He said nine drug smugglers have been arrested in the operation, a considerable amount of arms and ammunition has been confiscated, and 3,000 kilograms of narcotics have been seized.

Iran, which has a 900-kilometer common border with Afghanistan, has been used by smugglers as the main conduit to take narcotics to other countries.

Over the past four decades, the country has spent millions of dollars to seal its borders and prevent the transit of narcotics destined for European, Arab and Central Asian countries.
