Iran Censures EU’s Political Measures Taken in Name of Human Rights

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian foreign minister denounced the political shows demonstrated by the Council of Minister of the European Union under the pretext of advocating human rights.

In a telephone conversation on Tuesday, Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Irish counterpart Simon Coveney talked about the relations between Tehran and Dublin as well as regional and international issues.

The top Iranian diplomat criticized some political stunts staged by the European Union’s Council of Ministers under the guise of human rights.

Responding to a question posed by his Irish counterpart, Amirabdollahian thanked Ireland for its previous efforts for dialogue with the purpose of removal of the anti-Iran sanctions.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran stands ready for a good, sustainable and strong agreement and sees diplomacy as the right path, but it will never retreat from its redlines, which are meeting the interests of the people,” he added, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

For his part, Coveney pointed to his last year’s trip to Tehran, presenting his country’s views on the most significant regional and international issues and the topics on the agenda of bilateral relations.
