Iran Sympathizes with Afghans over Tunnel Accident Casualties


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson expressed his sympathy with the Afghan nation over deaths in a fuel tanker accident in the Salang Tunnel.

In comments on Monday, Nasser Kanaani expressed sympathy with the neighborly and Muslim Afghan nation and offered condolences to the families of victims of the accident.

At least 12 people were killed on Saturday in the accident in the Salang Tunnel, which connects Afghanistan’s capital Kabul to its north.

Thirty-seven people were also injured after a fuel tanker caught fire.

The landmark tunnel is located about 90km north of Kabul and is a key link between the country’s north and south.
