Persepolis Escapes Defeat at Tehran Derby


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Persepolis football team escaped a defeat against Esteghlal in Tehran derby on Tuesday.

In the match, held at the Azadi Stadium behind closed doors, Iran Professional League (IPL) leader Persepolis drew 2-2 with Esteghlal.

Persepolis’ Georgian defender Giorgi Gvelesiani found the back of the net with a header in the 16th minute.

Rouzbeh Cheshmi leveled the score in the 30th minute.

Arsalan Motahari put the Blues into the lead in the 50th minute.

Esteghlal could have moved up top of the table with the win but Gvelesiani equalized the match in the 89th minute with a header once again.

Earlier in the day, Tractor edged past Paykan 1-0 in Tehran courtesy of Mohammad Reza Abbasi’s goal in the first half.

Persepolis moved back top of the table with 25 points, one point above Gol Gohar.
