FM Reiterates Iran’s Support for Lebanon’s Stability, Peace


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian in a meeting with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri underlined the Islamic Republic’s support for peace and stability in the Arab country.

During the meeting in Beirut, the two sides exchanged views on the latest political situation in Lebanon as well as issues of bilateral, regional and international significance.

Amirabdollahian said, “From Beirut, we once again reaffirm our support for internal stability and solidity in Lebanon as well as the conclusion of a political process involving various factions in the country and free from any foreign meddling.”

He said the Islamic Republic has always backed Lebanon’s stability and peace, adding, “We believe stability and security in Lebanon serve the interests of the entire region.”

The Iranian foreign minister said the Islamic Republic does not interfere in the domestic affairs of Lebanon, but it will not hesitate to offer a helping hand to the Arab country if the need arises.

He said any boost in economic and trade ties between Iran and Lebanon will be in the interest of the two countries and nations.

The foreign minister highlighted the great technical capabilities of the Islamic Republic in building power plants and resolving Lebanon’s relevant problems, voicing Tehran’s readiness to help build power plants in the country.

Elsewhere, the two senior officials exchanged views on major regional issues, including Palestine and Yemen.

For his part, Berri commented on the latest situation of the political process in Lebanon, the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website.

He said Iran has never hesitated to provide assistance to Lebanon, thanking the Islamic Republic for its support.

The parliament chief said there are various grounds for the expansion of ties between Iran and Lebanon, and that an enhancement of bilateral cooperation will serve the interests of both sides.

He also highlighted the significance of the issue of Palestine, voicing concern over increasing threats against the Palestinians with the rise of an extremist group to power in the occupied territories.

Berri stressed the necessity of global support for Palestine.
