Arrangements Made for Normal Functioning of Azeri Embassy after Armed Attack

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Top Iranian officials have made the necessary security arrangements to assure the normal operation of the Republic of Azerbaijan’s embassy in Tehran after an armed attack killed a staff member at the diplomatic site on Friday morning.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi on Friday discussed various issues surrounding the deadly attack on the embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, including the armed assailant’s motive and purposes.

They concluded from the evidence and the initial observations that the motive behind the attack has been “totally personal”.

In addition, the necessary security arrangements have been made to assure the normal functioning of the Republic of Azerbaijan’s embassy and diplomats in Tehran.

The judicial and security measures are also underway to ascertain the personal motive behind the armed attack.

One person has been killed and two others injured after an assailant opened fire at the embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Tehran on Friday morning.

Commander of Tehran’s Police General Hossein Rahimi said the assailant entered the embassy building with a firearm and opened fire at the site.

During the initial interrogation process, the assailant has cited “personal and family problems” as the motive behind the shooting attack, the police chief added.

The Republic of Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the attacker broke through the guard post, killing the head of security with a Kalashnikov assault rifle.
