Tehran Ready to Host 3+3 South Caucasus Format Meeting

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian expressed the country’s readiness to host a meeting of the 3+3 South Caucasus Platform in Tehran.

In a meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Alexander Grushko, held in Tehran on Monday, Amirabdollahian called for the promotion of cooperation between the two countries.

He also stressed the need for regional cooperation in order to meet the current challenges across the region.

Amirabdollahian then voiced Tehran’s readiness to host a meeting of the foreign ministers of the 3+3 format, which includes Russia, Iran, Turkey and three South Caucasus nations.

For his part, Grushko lauded the bilateral, regional and international cooperation between Russia and Iran, stressing the need to enhance the ties.

Russian and Iranian officials have time and again said that the two countries are determined to further expand bilateral ties. They have expressed confidence that the aim will materialize, despite all the challenges the two nations might face, given the numerous capacities the two sides have.

In a meeting with his Russian counterpart on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Uzbekistan in September 2022, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi expressed Tehran’s opposition to the sanctions against Russia, assuring his counterpart Vladimir Putin that Iran will never join the campaign of anti-Russian sanctions.

Putin also said at the meeting that the Western states are not the masters of their word because they give as they want or take when they want.
