Clashes Erupt at Ibrahimi Mosque Massacre Commemoration March (+Video)

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Palestinian protesters clashed with Israeli forces in the West Bank city of Al-Khalil (Hebron) during a march commemorating the 29th anniversary of the Ibrahimi Mosque massacre.

At least three protesters were injured in the Bab al-Zawiya area of the Old City of Hebron, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

The march took place after Friday prayers, with Palestinians carrying banners, flags, and photos to honor the memory of those killed in the 1994 massacre.

Baruch Kopel Goldstein, an American-Israeli settler, opened fire inside the mosque during dawn prayers, killing 29 Palestinians and wounding over 100 others.

Mustafa Al-Barghouti, the Secretary General of the National Initiative Movement, accused Israel of carrying out "brutal massacres" against the Palestinian people, citing the recent events in Jenin, Jericho, and Nablus.

Israeli forces launch raids on cities across the occupied West Bank almost on a daily basis under the pretext of detaining what the regime calls “wanted” Palestinians. The raids usually lead to deadly confrontations with residents.

Over the past months, Israel has ramped up attacks on Palestinian towns and cities throughout the occupied territories. As a result of these attacks, dozens of Palestinians have lost their lives and many others have been arrested.

Last Wednesday, a deadly raid by Israeli forces in Nablus reportedly resulted in 10 Palestinian deaths and over 500 injuries, further fueling tensions between Palestinian citizens and Israeli authorities.

The United Nations marked 2022 as the deadliest year for Palestinians in the West Bank in 16 years.

Israeli forces killed at least 171 Palestinians in the West Bank and occupied East al-Quds last year, including more than 30 children. At least 9,000 others were also injured.
