Iran’s Mohammadi Wins Gold at Asian Wrestling Championships
TEHRAN (Tehran) – Iran’s Iman Mohammadi snatched a gold medal in the 2023 Asian Wrestling Championships on Sunday.
The Greco-Roman wrestler beat Shermukhammad Sharibjanov from Uzbekistan 9-0 in the final bout of the 63kg.
Mohammadi started the competition with a 9-0 win over Indian Neeraj Chhikara and then defeated Korean wrestler Song Jin-seub with the same scoreboard.
The Championships started on April 9 in Astana, Kazakhstan and will run until April 14.
The six-day event will determine the seeds for the World Championships to be held in mid-September in Serbia. The World Championships, consequently, will serve as the qualifying event for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
