Wrong Address Leads to Fatal Shooting in Upstate New York

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A 20-year-old woman was shot and killed after the car she was in mistakenly drove onto the wrong property in the rural town of Hebron, upstate New York on Saturday night, according to authorities.

Kaylin Gillis and three others were attempting to turn the car around when the homeowner, Kevin Monahan, fired two shots, hitting Gillis with one of the bullets, ABCNews reported.

Emergency crews were called, but Gillis died before they could save her.

Monahan was taken into custody after a standoff with police and has been charged with second-degree murder.

Sheriff Jeffrey Murphy said there was "no reason for Mr. Monahan to feel threatened" as Gillis and her friends were just "looking for another friend’s house."

This shooting comes after a similar incident in Kansas City where a 16-year-old black boy was shot and wounded after going to the wrong house to pick up his younger brothers.
