Iran Produces 2.7 Million Tons of Steel in January: WSA


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Islamic Republic of Iran produced 2.7 million tons of steel in January 2023, World Steel Association reported on Saturday.

The association in its latest report also announced that steel output in West Asia in March 2023 hit 3.1 million tons, showing a 17.5 percent slump compared to the same period last year.

Accordingly, 63 countries produced 165.1 million tons of steel in March 2023, registering a 1.7 percent growth as compared to the last year’s corresponding period.

Of the world’s top 10 steel producers in March 2023, only five countries registered the production growth, the World Steel Association added.

Iran produced 2.7 million tons of steel in January 2023, while the output in February stood at 2.4 million tons.

According to WSA, Iran ranked 10th among the world’s steel producers in February 2021 and managed to retain its standing by December 2022.

Iran has moved one step up in January 2023 in terms of steel production, ranked 9th in this period in the global ranking, and retained its standing in February of the same year.
