Russia Says Works Underway to Normalize Syrian-Turkish Relations

Bogdanov made the statement while speaking to TASS on the sidelines of the "Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum."

"Yes, we are working on it," Bogdanov replied when asked about the progress of the normalization process.

Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced that the work on establishing the roadmap would commence soon, with a separate committee assigned to handle the task.

According to Cavusoglu, the committee will consist of deputy foreign ministers, deputy defense ministers, and representatives from intelligence agencies.

The process of normalizing relations between Ankara and Damascus began on December 28, 2022, in Moscow, where delegations from the defense ministries of Russia, Syria, and Turkey held trilateral consultations. During the meeting, the parties agreed to establish a joint trilateral commission. These consultations were expected to be followed by a trilateral meeting of foreign ministers to discuss a presidential-level summit. It was later announced that Iran would also participate in the meeting of foreign ministers.

On December 15, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan proposed holding a trilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Erdogan suggested that prior to the summit, meetings involving intelligence representatives, defense ministers, and foreign ministers should take place.
