Iran, Azerbaijan Push to Settle Misunderstandings

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign ministers of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan weighed plans to correct misunderstandings between the two neighbors and ensure the normal course of relations.

In a telephone conversation on Thursday night, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhoun Bayramov talked about the latest developments in the relations between Tehran and Baku.

In the long conversation, the two senior diplomats stressed the need for continued consultations and the exchange of technical and expert delegations between Iran and Azerbaijan Republic in various fields with the purpose of resolving the problems.

Amirabdollahian and Bayramov agreed that the correct management of the media atmosphere would be constructive, reviewed the latest issues of mutual interest, and emphasized the need to clear up the misunderstandings and steer the relations between the two countries towards the normal course that conforms with good neighborliness and the mutual interests.

In a post on his Twitter account on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani denounced the Zionist regime’s attempts to sour relations between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan, saying Tehran pursues the policy of good neighborliness and abolition of visa requirements for the Azeri nationals.

He underlined that what the people of Azerbaijan Republic should be afraid of is the Zionist regime, not the civilizational and Islamic Iran.

“Our policy continues to be the abolition of visa requirements and the open arms for the Azerbaijani brothers and sisters,” the spokesman stressed.

Kanaani stated that Iran sticks to the policy of good neighborliness within the framework of mutual respect and observance of neighborliness norms.
