Iran Remains World’s 10th Largest Steel Producer: WSA


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran has managed to retain its global ranking and remain among the top 10 steel producers in the world, according to the latest report of the World Steel Association (WSA).

Iran produced 30.6 million tons of crude steel last year and managed to maintain its place as the world’s 10th biggest steel producer.

In the meantime, the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), affiliated to the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade, stood in 20th place among the world’s top steelmaking companies.

In its latest report, the WSA announced that steel production in the world registered a 100-fold growth in the past 72 years.

This report indicated that steel production volume in the world increased from 189 million tons in 1950 to 1,885,000,000 tons in 2022.

It also indicated that Iran became the world’s second-largest sponge iron producer by producing 125,100,000 tons in 2022.

Iran also produced 2.5 million tons of crude iron in 2022, 100,000 tons of which were exported overseas.
