Iran Greco-Roman Team Runner-Up at Vehbi Emre


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran Greco-Roman wrestling team finished in second place at the 2023 Vehbi Emre & Hamit Kaplan tournament.

Iranian wrestlers won one gold, one silver and three bronze medals on Day 2.

Saeed Esmaeili defeated Turkey’s Mustafa Safa Yildirim in the final match of 67kg to win Iran’s only gold medal in the tournament.

Iran’s Meisam Dalkhani lost to Kerem Kamal of Turkey in 60kg final match.

Amin Kaviyaninejad (77kg), Pejman Poshtam (87kg) and Morteza Alghosi (130kg) also claimed three bronze medals.

Mohammad Mahdi Farid (55kg), Sajjad Imentalab (72kg) and Jamal Esmaili (82kg) had won three silvers on Day 1 and Amir Mohammadzei claimed a bronze medal in the 63kg.

Turkey won the tournament with  220 points, followed by Iran (169) and Hungary (111). 

The 40th Vehbi Emre & Hamit Kaplan Tournament was held in Istanbul, Turkey.
