Iran Sees Promising Future for Economic Ties with Saudi Arabia

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Highlighting the good frameworks for the promotion of cooperation between Iran and Saudi Arabia, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani said the future of economic relations between the two states is bright and promising.

Speaking to reporters at a weekly presser on Monday, Kanaani said Tehran and Riyadh have restored relations on the basis of a positive outlook.

He said the two states have agreed during recent meetings to broaden the economic and trade interaction on a par with the political relations, pointing to “good frameworks” in this regard.

“Our evaluation is that within the framework of the trade capacities, the vistas for the achievement of suitable conditions for the formation of economic cooperation are bright and promising as we have held negotiations at various levels,” he said.

The spokesman also thanked the Saudi officials for interaction with Iran during the Hajj season, hoping that the annual Muslim event would be held magnificently and lead to closer unity of the Islamic community.

After several days of intensive negotiations hosted by China, Iran and Saudi Arabia clinched a deal on March 10 to restore diplomatic relations and reopen embassies and missions after seven years of estrangement.

The two regional powers have underscored the need to respect each other’s national sovereignty and refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of one another.
