Russian Embassy Slams US Justification of Cluster Munitions Delivery to Ukraine
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The Russian Embassy in the United States strongly criticized the statements made by US officials regarding Ukraine's use of cluster munitions, describing them as a "clumsy attempt to justify their own provocative actions."
The Embassy expressed its disapproval on Telegram, noting that it had observed the Pentagon's announcement of cluster munitions being delivered to Ukraine and the administration's officials referencing promises made by the Kiev regime to use these weapons with restrictions and in appropriate locations, according to Sputnik .
According to the Embassy, such statements by US officials are an effort to rationalize their own provocative actions. They further stated that anyone monitoring the conflict is aware that Kiev has been utilizing US security assistance to target civilian areas in hopes of intimidating Russia and causing as many casualties as possible, even in residential zones without military facilities.
The Embassy emphasized its belief that the Armed Forces of Ukraine will not adhere to any restrictions when selecting their targets, as they are desperate due to significant losses and a lack of success on the frontlines. They warned of the potential civilian casualties, including Ukrainians, once the Kiev regime begins using US-supplied cluster munitions.
Earlier on Thursday, Joint Staff Director for Operations Lt. Gen. Douglas A. Sims confirmed that cluster munitions provided by the US and other countries had been delivered to Ukraine. He noted that cluster munitions were already present in Ukraine from third-party countries prior to the US delivery. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had previously stated that Ukraine would only use cluster munitions provided by the US against military targets.
