Nasser Hejazi Nominated for All-Time AFC Asian Cup Goalkeeper

TEHRAN (Tasnim)- With just under six months to go until the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023, the AFC invites fans to vote for their all-time AFC Asian Cup Dream XI in its latest campaign.

Fans can now view a shortlist of 42 contenders and pick their all-time dream squad. The public votes will be combined with those of a panel of football experts to decide the Final Dream XI of the AFC Asian Cup.

The fan whose squad matches the final selected Dream XI will get the chance to win a trip to the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 with a companion.

The-afc.com begins with eight candidates for the goalkeeper position.

Widely regarded as Iran's best-ever goalkeeper, Nasser Hejazi's spectacular displays in goal for club and country during the 1960s and 70s earned him the nickname “Eagle of Asia”.

He was the last line of defense as Team Melli won the title in 1972 and was also part of the squad that retained the title four years later. His last hurrah came in the 1980 edition when his country finished third.

Mohamed Al Deayea (Saudi Arabia), Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi (Japan), Lee Woon-jae (Korea Republic), Mark Schwarzer (Australia), Noor Sabri (Iraq) Mathew Ryan (Australia) and Saad Al Sheeb (Qatar) are the other seven candidates.
