Official Highlights Development of Chabahar Port


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Chabahar is the gem of Makran coasts, the secretary of Makran Coasts Development Company said, adding that constructing Phase 2 of Shahid Beheshti Port of Chabahar, costing $3 billion, will be completed in three years.

In addition to completing the construction operation of Phase 2 of Chabahar’s Shahid Beheshti Port, the Chabahar Airport will be constructed within the next three years, Hossein Dehghan stated.

In 2008, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution emphasized the significance of Makran coastal areas and its status in the international arena, Dehghan said, adding, “Iran’s Navy was relocated to the Sea of Oman in that region after the special emphasis of the Leader and was tasked with providing maritime security and securing national interests in this region.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Dehghan pointed to the measures taken after the Islamic Revolution for the development of Makran coastal areas and added that Chabahar, as a gem, can become a hub for transferring gas, oil, goods, data, etc.

Turning to the International North-South Transport Corridor, he emphasized that the construction operation of this strategic corridor should be accelerated in line with spurring trade and economic activities.
