Iran Downs Pakistan to Advance to 2023 Asian Volleyball Championship Semis

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran swept past Pakistan 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-13) in the 22nd Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship on Wednesday.

Iran’s Meysam Salehi scored 18 points and Murad Khan led the way for Pakistan with nine points.

Team Melli had defeated Hong Kong 3-0 and Iraq 3-1 in Pool A.

Behrouz Ataei’s team will face the winner of South Korea and China in the semifinals on Friday.

The Championship is being held in Orumiyeh, Iran from August 19 to 26.

With an eye on the prize, Iran is eager to clinch the title for a remarkable fifth time. On the other hand, Japan, being the most decorated team with nine titles to their name, stands as the primary favorite this year.

Both South Korea and Iran hold the distinction of having won the trophy on four occasions.

In the latest FIVB rankings, Japan boasts the prestigious title of the highest-ranked Asian team, clinching the fifth spot. Meanwhile, Iran secured the 10th position.
