Iran's FM Warns of Complications Arising from Armenia-US Military Exercise
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs Hossein Amirabdollahian cautioned that Armenia's joint military exercise with the United States would further complicate the regional situation.
During a phone call with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on Wednesday night, the Iranian rop diplomat expressed his concerns regarding the ongoing developments in the South Caucasus region and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations.
Amirabdollahian expressed contentment with the positive trajectory of relations between the two nations. He also emphasized the importance of implementing the pollution prevention roadmap for the Aras River to safeguard the ecosystem.
He underscored the necessity of resolving regional disputes to attain sustainable peace and highlighted the effectiveness of dialogue and regional mechanisms, including the 3+3 mechanism, in achieving comprehensive peace.
Mirzoyan, for his part, characterized the development of ties with Iran as constructive and significant, advocating for an expansion of bilateral relations.
He raised concerns about the transfer of military forces by the Republic of Azerbaijan, asserting that any alteration of border lines in the South Caucasus region is unacceptable.
Additionally, he highlighted ongoing negotiations between Iranian and Armenian environmental officials and stressed the importance of preserving the environmental safety of the Aras River.
Mirzoyan affirmed that Armenian territory would not be used as a platform for anti-Iran activities.
