CBI Confirms Deposit of over €5 Billion of Iran’s Assets in Qatar


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Referring to the release of Iran’s blocked assets in South Korea, the governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) said that €5.573 billion of Iranian assets were deposited into the account of six Iranian banks at two Qatari-based banks, Al-Ahli and Al-Dukhan.

Mohammad Reza Farzin made the remarks on Monday, adding that all inaccessible financial resources of Iran at two South Korean banks and the Seoul Branch of Bank Mellat in South Korea were transferred to the account of the Swiss Central Bank on August 10. 

In this period, six Iranian banks opened accounts in Qatar, Farzin noted.

The CBI received an official letter from the Qatari officials yesterday, he said, adding that the accounts of six Iranian banks including Keshavarzi, Saman, Pasargad, Tourism, Karafarin and Shahr have been activated and today, over €5 billion were deposited into the accounts of the six Iranian banks at the two Qatari banks of Al-Ahli and Al-Dukhan.

Farzin pointed to Iran's losses from the devaluation of South Korea’s won, and said that Iran's complaint against South Korea in this regard is being pursued and will continue until the desried result is achieved.
