Malaysia Urges Close Interaction with Iran in Regional, Int’l Alliances
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The prime minister of Malaysia called for the promotion of cooperation with Iran within the framework of regional and international alliances, rejecting any foreign interference that may impede interaction between Kuala Lumpur and Tehran.
In a meeting with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed his country's interest in developing bilateral relations with Iran.
He also praised Iran's significant progress in medicine, pharmaceuticals, science and technology, and military technologies.
Urging the development and generalization of bilateral cooperation in the form of regional and international alliances, the prime minister said, "We deeply believe that no foreign intervention should prevent cooperation between the two Muslim countries of Iran and Malaysia."
President Raisi, for his part, described the very good progress of Iran and Malaysia in the scientific, technological, industrial and medical fields as a suitable platform for the development of interaction.
Stressing the need to activate the Joint Economic Commission of Iran and Malaysia to weigh plans for closer cooperation and remove the existing obstacles, Raisi considered the formulation of a comprehensive long-term cooperation program between the two countries as a necessary platform and an effective measure in the comprehensive promotion of relations.
Raisi also pointed to the issue of culture as one of the very important capacities for the expansion of relations between the two countries and added, "The Islamic Republic of Iran is interested in developing its cultural relations with Malaysia in addition to the development of economic and commercial relations."
