Iran’s Mirzazadeh Snatches Gold at 2023 World Wrestling Championships


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Greco-Roman wrestler Amin Mirzazadeh earned a late win over defending champion Rıza Kayaalp in the 130kg weight class of the 2023 World Wrestling Championships Friday night.

With six seconds to go, Mirzazadeh defeated his Turkish opponent to win the gold. He had lost to Kayaalp in the previous edition in the gold medla match.

Abdellatif Mohamed from Egypt and Cuban Óscar Pino also claimed bronze medals in the weight class.

Earlier in the day, Pouya Dadmarz in the 55kg and Alireza Mohmadi in the 82kg had won a bronze and a silver medal, respectively.

The 2023 World Wrestling Championships started on September 16 and will run until September 24 in Belgrade, Serbia.
