Iran Summons Swiss Diplomat over Statement from US, PGCC

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The chargé d'affaires of Switzerland in Tehran was summoned by the Iranian Foreign Ministry in protest at a joint statement that the US and the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council have issued against Iran on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

The Foreign Ministry of Iran deplored the joint statement from the foreign ministers of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council and the US secretary of state in which unacceptable claims have been laid to the three Iranian Islands in the Persian Gulf with Washington’s support in addition to levelling baseless accusations against Iran.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry filed a severe protest to the Swiss diplomat, whose country represents US interests in Tehran, over the uncalculated move and the provocative acts of the US government.

The Foreign Ministry stressed that Iran is firmly resolved to defend its territorial integrity and protect its security and interests vis-à -vis any threats from the US government to its navigation and commercial shipping, the ministry’s website reported.

The Foreign Ministry further said Tehran will take all measures necessary to secure its national interests.

According to the Foreign Ministry, in line with its responsible and smart approach that is meant to safeguard regional security and stability, Iran will not let the US carry on with its policy of demonizing Iran in order to plunder the wealth and natural resources of the region.

The Swiss chargé d'affaires said he would immediately convey Iran’s protest to the US government.
