Volleyball Wins Iran’s First Gold in 2022 Asian Games


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s volleyball team defeated host China 3-1 (19-25, 25-14, 25-22, 26-24) on Tuesday to win the country’s first gold medal in the 2022 Asian Games.

Iran’s men’s volleyball team had won gold medals in the 2014 and 2018 Asian Games as well.

Saber Kazemi and Amir Hossein Esfandiar earned 14 points for Iran apiece.

Jing Yin Zhang scored 19 points for China.

Japan beat Qatar 3-1 earlier in the day in the bronze-medal match.

A record high of nearly 12,500 athletes from 45 countries and territories compete across 40 sports in the 2022 Asian Games.

Iran has sent 289 male and female athletes to the Games in 34 sports events.
