Dubai to Host 28th UN Climate Change Convention Meeting Next Month

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The 28th meeting of the UN Climate Change Conference dubbed “COP 28” will be held at Dubai Expo city, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), from November 30 to December 12, 2023.

The UAE will host the 28th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP 28) with a view to building on previous successes and paving the way for future ambition to effectively tackle the global challenge of climate change.

The head of the Innovation and Technology Center of Iran's Natural Resources and Watershed Management Organization pointed to the goals and missions of "COP 28" and said four basic missions and goals have been put on the agenda of the conference, which are as follows: rapid monitoring of energy transmission in order to reduce the greenhouse gases, correcting financial affairs related to the Climate Change Convention, highlighting the role of natural resources, people, life and livelihood in the heart of climate action, making the COP28 meeting inclusive and mobilizing countries more than ever in line with materializing goals and missions of the Convention and the Paris Agreement.

Hamidreza Soleimani termed Iran's presence in COP 28 as “important” due to the detailed discussions related to natural resources, agriculture and water.

Iran's active presence at the conference creates the opportunity to raise its opinions in this meeting and play an important role in the final statement of the meeting.

By attending the meetings of the United Nations Climate Change Convention, countries can actually include their interests in the statement, he emphasized.

One of the issues raised by the UAE in this year's COP 28 is about the protection of mangrove forests, he said, adding that the UAE has initiated widespread executive measures in the past decade due to having these forests.
