UN Can Count on Iran to Ensure Regional Peace: Amirabdollahian

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian assured the United Nations of the Islamic Republic’s contributory role in the establishment of peace and security in the region.

In a meeting with UN Under Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths, held in Geneva on Wednesday, Amirabdollahian said the UN can count upon Iran’s capacities for the establishment of regional peace and security.

Denouncing the Israeli regime’s brutal attacks on Gaza and pointing to the unbearable conditions in the besieged enclave, the Iranian foreign minister stressed the need for the immediate delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

The efforts must be focused on a ceasefire and the instant cessation of Israeli strikes, he stated.

Amirabdollahian also noted that contrary to the US’ claims, the supplies of humanitarian aid for Gaza have been meager, calling on the UN to act urgently and seriously in this regard and push for the reopening of the Rafah border crossing to help the people of Gaza.

For his part, Griffiths described the catastrophic situation in Gaza, particularly the terrible conditions at Al-Shifa Hospital, as a tragedy.

Voicing concern about the escalation of the war in Gaza, the UN official appreciated Iran for its efforts to prevent the spread of clashes.

More than 11,300 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza since October 7.

The Zionist forces have raided al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, the largest medical complex in the Strip, where thousands have taken shelter.
