Israeli Military Strikes Near Damascus Intercepted by Syrian Air Defense Units

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Syrian air defense units successfully intercepted most missiles launched by Israeli military aircraft near Damascus, reported Syria’s official news agency SANA, quoting a military source.

The attack, launched from the occupied Golan Heights, targeted areas close to Damascus around 2:25 a.m. local time on Friday.

Despite the strike causing material damage, Syrian air defenses managed to thwart most of the projectiles, as confirmed by the source. The incident occurred amidst Israel’s ongoing assaults on the Gaza Strip, where relentless air and ground attacks have caused significant casualties and damage.

Since the launch of al-Aqsa Storm operation by Palestinian resistance movements, Israel's aggressive actions have resulted in over 11,500 Palestinian deaths, including 4,710 children, and over 29,800 injuries. Moreover, 3,640 individuals, including 1,770 children, are reported missing or buried under rubble, according to the Ministry of Health.

Israel's recurrent targeting of Syrian military positions, particularly those affiliated with Hezbollah, occurs without official comments from the Tel Aviv regime. These attacks are viewed by many as reactionary measures against Syria's effective efforts in countering terrorism, wherein Hezbollah has notably supported the Syrian army.

Israel's consistent backing of anti-government terrorist groups amid the Syrian conflict remains a point of contention, with the Zionist regime being criticized for its role in fueling the foreign-backed militancy against the democratically-elected government led by President Bashar al-Assad.
