Iran’s Zare Seizes Silver at 2023 Junior World Weightlifting Championships


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Abolfazl Zare won a silver medal at the 2023 Junior World Weightlifting Championships.

Zare claimed the silver in the men’s 102kg category. He lifted 166kg in snatch and 199kg in clean and jerk and finished in second place with a total of 365kg.

Armenia’s Garik Karapetyan won the gold medal with 378kg and the bronze medal went to Georgia’s Gurami Vekua with 358kg.

Iran has sent 10 weightlifters to the Championships, underway in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The competition started in the Mexican city on November 15 and will run through November 23.

A total of 229 lifters from 44 countries are taking part in the 2023 IWF World Junior Weightlifting Championships.
