Hamas Ineradicable: Iranian FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign minister of Iran reminded the Zionist regime that Hamas is a liberation movement that is rooted in the Palestinian nation and may not be eradicated.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, who has visited Qatar after a trip to Lebanon, held a meeting with his Qatari counterpart Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani in Doha on Thursday.

Pointing to the several meetings they have held during the past six weeks after the onset of the Israeli onslaught against Gaza, Amirabdollahian acknowledged the significant efforts of Qatar regarding Palestine.

Welcoming the temporary ceasefire in Gaza, the Iranian foreign minister warned that if the Israeli regime persists in the war following this phase of the ceasefire, the situation in the region could escalate and trigger more widespread reactions.

"Israel cannot continue the war without the support of the United States. The reactions witnessed against the United States in the region over the past six weeks are a response from the resistance groups to America's support for the genocide in Palestine. These actions have nothing to do with Iran,” Amirabdollahian added, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

He then emphasized that Hamas is a liberation movement born from the context of the Palestinian nation, adding, "Hamas cannot be eradicated. Those involved should not assume that what they couldn't achieve during more than a month and a half of warfare can be attained through political means."

For his part, the Qatari foreign minister expressed satisfaction with the meeting, highlighting the positive and constructive consultations and collaboration between Iran and Qatar.

He also hailed Iran's pivotal role and valuable contributions towards achieving a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, expressing gratitude for Iran's efforts.

Stressing the progress made in the efforts to end the Gaza war, he said the primary focus remains on securing the ceasefire.

Al Thani also highlighted the shared goal of extending the temporary ceasefire, ensuring the complete cessation of violence, and protection of the Palestinian lives in order to prevent a return to conflict.

In the meeting, the two sides also discussed the bilateral matters and joint cooperation aimed at bolstering regional security.

A four-day Gaza truce agreed by Hamas and the Israeli regime has taken effect for first time after seven weeks of war.

More than 14,800 people have been killed in Gaza by the Israeli strikes since October 7.
